Quick answer
A Samsung Galaxy A05 screen replacement in South Africa starts at R524 for the part alone (POTATOTECH shelf price, 29 October 2026), with independent workshops quoting roughly R1,100–R1,400 for the comparable A-series class. Two things make the A05 different from its neighbours: Samsung’s official repair programme no longer lists it at all (it sits outside both the Care+ tiers and the official screen-repair service), and the job itself is a full teardown, not a simple panel swap.
The A05 is the 2023 entry point of Samsung’s budget line, and by late 2026 it has slipped out of every official repair tier. That leaves the parts market as the main channel, which makes model knowledge more valuable here than on newer phones. This guide covers the costs, the A0x model traps, what to order, and how much of the job you can realistically do yourself.
What does a Samsung Galaxy A05 screen replacement cost?
Collected values, not quotes. Part prices are live shelf prices collected 29 October 2026, excluding labour and VAT; workshop and service-pack prices come from our South African repair price database, collected 10 September 2026, and include parts and labour, with official service packs including 15% VAT.
| Route | Typical cost (ZAR) | Source and date |
|---|---|---|
| Part only, Galaxy A05 display assembly | R524 | POTATOTECH shelf, 29 Oct 2026 |
| Part only, comparable A-series screens (A06, A13, A14) | R519–R524 | POTATOTECH shelf, 29 Oct 2026 |
| Independent workshop, comparable class (A14/A15/A25) | R1,100–R1,400 | ZA Repair Price Database, 10 Sep 2026 |
| Official service pack, comparable class | R1,499–R1,799 (incl. 15% VAT) | ZA Repair Price Database, 10 Sep 2026 |
| Samsung Care+ per-incident fee | not listed for the A05 | samsung.com/za, 29 Oct 2026 |
| Samsung official screen-repair service | not offered for the A05 | samsung.com/za, 29 Oct 2026 |
The last two rows are the whole story for this model. Samsung’s current Care+ tiers cover the A06 through A18 in the cheapest bracket, and its official screen-repair service covers the S series from S20 upwards, Flip from Flip3 and Fold from Fold3 — the A05 appears in neither. On a 2023 phone this far down the range, the official channel has closed completely, and the realistic routes are an independent workshop at R1,100–R1,400 or a part and your own labour at R524.

Against those numbers, the part is one of the most affordable screens in our entire Samsung range, alongside the A06 and A13. What keeps the total honest is what the fitting involves — more on that below.
Check the model number: the A0x family is full of lookalikes
The A05 sits in the middle of a family that all looks the same from the outside. Search suggestions for its screen run from the A04 to the A06 and even the A54, because four years of budget Galaxys share one body style. The model numbers are the only reliable dividing line:
| Model | Model numbers | Display | Our part price (re-checked 6 Nov 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Galaxy A05 | SM-A055F, SM-A055M (and /DS) | 6.7″ PLS LCD, 720 × 1600 (HD+) | R524 |
| Galaxy A05s | SM-A057F, SM-A057M, SM-A057G | 6.7″ PLS LCD, 1080 × 2400 (FHD+) | R524 |
| Galaxy A06 | SM-A065F/M (4G), SM-A066 (5G) | 6.7″ PLS LCD, 720 × 1600 (HD+) | R524 |
| Galaxy A04 | SM-A045F/M (and /DS) | 6.5″ PLS LCD, 720 × 1600 (HD+) | not stocked |

iFixit’s device notes warn directly against confusing the A05s with the A05: the A05s carries a sharper FHD+ panel and a triple camera, where the A05 has an HD+ panel and two rear cameras. The A06 is a different generation again with its own model numbers. And if a listing shows one price for “A05/A05s/A06 screens”, that is a warning sign rather than a bargain, because at least two different panels sit behind that label.
What to order: assembly, frame, and the “OLED” myth
The A05 shipped with a 6.7-inch PLS LCD at 720 × 1600 (HD+), a 50-megapixel main camera with a 2-megapixel depth sensor, and a 5,000 mAh battery, in a glass-front, plastic-back body weighing 195 grams (iFixit device data). Samsung did not put an OLED panel in this phone, so any listing advertising an “OLED screen for Galaxy A05” is mislabelled — the OLED models in this family start at the A15.

Listings also split into two physical formats, and search data shows shoppers actively comparing them. A screen with frame comes bonded into its midframe: it costs a little more, but it replaces the frame section as well, which helps if the old frame is bent or the original adhesive is badly damaged. A screen without frame is the bare panel: cheaper, but it must be glued onto the old frame, and the result depends entirely on surface preparation and the quality of the adhesive. Whichever you choose, the original seal is destroyed during removal, so order replacement adhesive if it is not already in the box.
Can you replace an A05 screen yourself?
You can, but understand the size of the job first. There is no model-specific iFixit guide for the A05, and the published teardown data that does exist describes a full disassembly: heat the back cover to about 70 °C, lift it, remove seventeen Phillips screws across the top and bottom plates, open the midframe, disconnect the battery, and work down through the speaker, coaxial cable, sub-board and cameras before the display connector is even reachable (third-party teardown guide, vrm24, collected 29 October 2026). That is a full strip-down of the phone, closer to the Galaxy A14’s procedure than to a quick panel swap.
- Tools. A Phillips #000 (or 1.5 mm Phillips) driver for the seventeen screws, plastic pry tools and film, a heat source, a suction handle, tweezers, and replacement adhesive.
- Safety first. Disconnect the battery before touching any display connector, and keep every screw in order — the top and bottom plates use different counts.
- Test before sealing. Power on and check touch, brightness, colour, the cameras, the fingerprint sensor and SIM detection before the back cover goes back on.

And if that job description sounds like more than you want to take on, that is a legitimate read of the evidence: a full teardown on a phone worth a few hundred rand second-hand is not for everyone.
Repair, replace or hand it to a workshop?
| Your situation | Sensible route | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Phone is otherwise healthy and you are comfortable with a full teardown | Part plus DIY | R524 part; the seventeen-screw strip-down is the price of entry |
| You want the phone working today without touching a screwdriver | Independent workshop | R1,100–R1,400 comparable-class pricing, typically same-day |
| You have sourced the part but not the nerve | Part plus a workshop fit | Keeps the panel decision yours and the workmanship in theirs; agree the fitting charge first |
| Screen damage plus battery, port or board faults | Shop quote for the whole job | Stacked faults change the maths on a phone this old |
One context note on a phone this age: the A05 launched in 2023, so check the rest of the device before committing. A tired battery, a loose charging port or past water damage each push the total toward the price of a newer budget phone, and a screen on top of those faults rarely pays back.
On what this part is: a replacement screen is a third-party display assembly, not a Samsung original, and the honest position is that what a good supplier controls is the fit, not the factory calibration. We stock the A05 assembly with its model fit documented, priced openly, and photographed as the actual part. It suits an A05 that is otherwise healthy and an owner comfortable with a careful teardown; it suits you less if the phone is under any remaining warranty, if the fault is a board issue rather than the panel, or if you would rather keep the original factory seal intact.
And you are not obliged to fit it yourself: a screen you have chosen can be handed to any workshop to fit, which keeps the panel decision yours and the teardown risk off your bench. Plenty of customers source the assembly and have the work done.
Frequently asked questions
How much does Samsung Galaxy A05 screen replacement cost in South Africa?
About R524 for the part alone (shelf prices, 29 October 2026, parts only) and roughly R1,100–R1,400 fitted at independent workshops for the comparable A-series class (repair price database, 10 September 2026, parts and labour). Samsung’s Care+ programme and its official screen-repair service do not cover the A05, so the official route is closed on this model.
Is the Galaxy A05 screen the same as the A05s or the A06?
No. The A05 and A06 share an HD+ panel size, but they are different models with different model numbers and connectors, and the A05s uses a sharper FHD+ panel with a triple camera. Match the model number in Settings → About phone: SM-A055F for the A05, SM-A057F for the A05s, SM-A065F for the A06.
Should I order a screen with frame or without frame?
With frame if the old midframe is bent or badly marked, or if you want the simplest fit; without frame if you want the lowest part cost and are confident in your adhesive work. Either way the original seal is destroyed on removal, so replacement adhesive is part of the job.
Does the Galaxy A05 have an OLED screen?
No. It uses a 6.7-inch PLS LCD at 720 × 1600 (HD+). Any “OLED” screen listed for the A05 is mislabelled; the OLED models in this family start at the Galaxy A15.
