Samsung Galaxy A14 Screen Replacement in South Africa (2026)

Quick answer

A Samsung Galaxy A14 screen replacement in South Africa starts at R524 for the part alone (POTATOTECH shelf price, 26 October 2026), with independent workshops typically quoting R1,100–R1,400 for the comparable A-series class. Two warnings before you order: the 4G A14 (SM-A145F) and 5G A14 (SM-A146B) are different phones with different panels, and no OLED screen exists for this model, because the A14 was the last Galaxy A-series phone built with an LCD.

Your A14 slipped off the couch, landed screen-down, and now there’s a spider-web crack running across the glass. Before you start comparing prices, there are three things about this model that change the repair picture: Samsung’s official programme no longer lists it, the replacement market is entirely LCD, and the repair itself is heavier than on newer A-series phones. This guide covers the numbers, the model traps, and the sensible routes.

All prices below are collected values with dates attached, not quotes; where A14-specific installed pricing is scarce, that is said plainly.

Prompt: Purpose: Create an editorial hero image for a smartphone screen replacement guide. The image must prioritise real-world accuracy and physical plausibility over visual drama. Subject Facts: A modern smartphone lying FRONT-FACE-UP on a clean light grey workbench, its display facing directly up toward the viewer. The front of the phone is dominated by a large rectangular dark glass screen with a small pill-shaped notch cutout at the top centre of the screen. The screen glass is cracked: several realistic crack lines radiate from the lower left corner across the glass, and the display itself is completely dark and unlit. Beside the phone, to the right, sits a separate replacement display assembly lying face down, showing a slim dark back surface with a thin flexible cable tail and a small connector extending from one edge. Both items are the same approximate size. Real-world Scene Logic: The phone and the replacement assembly rest flat on the same surface at the same depth. The flexible cable lies on the bench in a plausible gentle curve and connects naturally at its origin. Realistic contact shadows beneath both items. No floating or intersecting objects. The cracks must be clearly visible on the front glass. Camera/Lighting: Angled top-down view from slightly above, soft diffused studio lighting, light neutral grey workbench background, minimal shadow. Style Anchor + Brand Color: Flat vector illustration style, clean minimal technical editorial look, brand blue as a thin accent outline only, neutral white and grey palette. Constraints: No generated headlines, labels, captions, UI text, screen content or promotional text. No text, no words, no letters, no numbers anywhere in the image. Tiny incidental manufacturing markings may remain indistinct if naturally present. No deformed objects, no distorted shapes, no warped phone geometry, no impossible cable routing, no brand names or logos. The phone must be shown from its FRONT, not its back: no rear camera modules anywhere in this image. Output Format: 1024×768 output.

What does a Samsung Galaxy A14 screen replacement cost?

Now that you know the numbers, let us narrow down which screen you actually need. The A14 sits in the cheapest repair bracket in Samsung’s range, and the official route has quietly closed. These are collected values; confirm the exact model and part grade with whoever does the work.

That last row is worth pausing on. Samsung’s Care+ repair-fee table lists the A06, A07, A08 and A15 through A18 in its cheapest bracket, but the A14 does not appear at all. For a 2023 phone, the official programme has moved on, leaving two honest routes: an independent workshop at R1,100–R1,400, or a part and your own labour at R524.

On the DIY maths, be realistic. Saving R600 to R900 sounds good until you read the repair guide: on the A14, a screen replacement means stripping the phone to the motherboard and moving every internal part into a new frame. If you own a proper toolkit and have done this kind of job, the saving is real. If not, the labour and warranty of a shop job are worth more than the difference on a phone in this bracket.

To put those numbers in context: the A14’s R524 panel is one of the cheapest Samsung screens we stock, and it sits in the same price band as the A05, A06 and A13 (R519–R524). That is roughly half the cost of an entry-level iPhone panel and less than a third of a flagship Samsung panel. The affordability is real — the question is whether the rest of the phone justifies the repair.

Check your model number first: 4G and 5G are different phones

The A14 shipped in two versions that look almost identical. The 4G LTE model is SM-A145F (plus regional SM-A145M, SM-A145P and SM-A145R), and the 5G model is SM-A146B (plus its own regional variants). They share the same 6.6-inch FHD+ screen size but differ in refresh rate, chipset and back-panel pattern, so the rule is simple: open Settings → About phone and match the model number exactly before ordering.

VersionModel numbersPanelRefresh rate

Galaxy A14 5GSM-A146B and regional variants6.6″ PLS LCD, 1080 × 2408 (FHD+)90 Hz

The wider trap is the A1x family. On our shelf the A13, A14, A05 and A06 all sit between R519 and R554, and the A15 and A16 move up to OLED panels at R989 and R1,046. They are not the same machine:

Galaxy A15R989OLED per listing
Galaxy A16R1,046OLED per listing

If a listing shows one price covering “A13/A14/A15 screens”, treat that as a red flag rather than a bargain: an LCD panel and an OLED panel are hiding behind the same label, and the A14 itself has two versions. Match the model number, not the look.

Why no OLED screen exists for the A14

Once you have confirmed the model number, the next question is panel type. The A14 was the last Galaxy A-series phone built with an LCD panel. Samsung moved the range to AMOLED from the A15 onwards, so the entire replacement market for the A14 is LCD or TFT, and any “OLED screen for Galaxy A14” listing is mislabelled. There is no upgraded panel to order, and no reason to pay a premium for one.

The rest of the official spec matters too: 167.7 × 78.0 × 9.1 mm, 205 g, a 5,000 mAh battery with 15W charging, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, NFC, and a dual nano-SIM tray that shares its slot with a microSD card of up to 1 TB. Order a complete display assembly, ideally with the frame, and source adhesive separately if it is not included, because the original seal is destroyed during removal.

One last note on ordering: the A14 uses a display connector that sits under the midframe, so a frame assembly includes the connector housing and saves you the trouble of transferring it. A bare panel does not. If you are doing a full teardown (which you will be, on this model), the frame assembly is the safer choice because it reduces the number of delicate flex cables you need to move across. The price difference between the two formats is typically R30–R50 on our shelf — small enough that the convenience usually wins.

Phone with its back cover removed, exposing the battery and board, with a pry tool beside it

Can you replace an A14 screen yourself? The honest answer

So you have confirmed the model and chosen a panel — the next question is whether to fit it yourself. You can, but know what the job involves. iFixit’s guide for the Samsung Galaxy A14 screen replacement is a full teardown: the phone opens like a book from the back, and every internal component, battery and motherboard included, comes out and moves into the new frame. It is a different class of job from the screen-only swaps on newer phones, and the single most important fact for anyone budgeting an afternoon.

  • Tools. A prying and opening tool assortment and a Phillips #00 screwdriver cover the guide’s steps; isopropyl alcohol helps with stubborn adhesive.
  • Sequence. Remove the SIM tray and power off, open the back cover, disconnect the battery first, then the display flex, then work through the panels, battery and motherboard before transferring everything into the new casing.
  • Safety. The guide is blunt about the battery: if it looks damaged, discard it, because a punctured battery can catch fire or explode. Never pry it, never bend it, never heat it.
  • Before sealing. Power on and test the display, touch, cameras, fingerprint sensor and SIM/SD detection before the final reassembly, because reaching the same connectors again means another teardown.

Two things catch first-timers on this model. The adhesive bond between the back cover and the frame is stronger than on most budget phones, so a heat gun or hair dryer is not optional — you need to warm the perimeter until it is uncomfortable to touch before the pick will slide in cleanly. And the volume rocker flex cable runs along the inside of the right edge, close to where you insert the pick: go slow around the corners, because tearing that cable means replacing it alongside the screen.

For technique on opening glued backs without cracking anything, our guide to removing a phone screen without breaking it and DIY screen repair overview fill in the method. Budget an afternoon, not an hour, and photograph every step.

Two replacement screen types: a full display assembly with a wide frame and a bare panel

What if something goes wrong?

Three things go wrong more often than others on A-series teardowns. A stripped screw in the midframe happens when the wrong driver size is used; if it happens, stop and try a rubber band between the driver and the screw head before drilling it out. A torn display flex cable is harder — the cable runs from the panel to the motherboard and cannot be repaired in the field, which is why the replacement part should arrive before you start the job. And an adhesive seal that does not hold is the most common post-repair complaint: it usually comes from skipping the press-down step or from a dirty frame surface. Clean the old adhesive with isopropyl alcohol, let it dry, then apply the new strip slowly and evenly.

Context matters on a phone this old. The A14 launched in 2023, so check the rest of the device before spending on the screen alone: with a tired battery, failing charging port or water corrosion added in, the combined bill can approach the price of a newer budget phone. A screen on an otherwise healthy A14 is good value; on a phone with three other faults it is not.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Samsung Galaxy A14 screen replacement cost in South Africa?

From about R524 for the part alone, and roughly R1,100–R1,400 at independent workshops for the comparable A-series class. Official service packs run R1,499–R1,799 including VAT, and Samsung’s Care+ programme no longer lists the A14. Figures are collected values dated September and October 2026.

Are the A14 and A14 5G screens interchangeable?

Do not assume so. The 4G model is SM-A145F and the 5G model is SM-A146B, and while both use a 6.6-inch FHD+ PLS LCD panel, they differ in refresh rate (60 Hz versus 90 Hz), chipset and back-panel pattern. Check Settings → About phone and order for your exact model number.

Does the Galaxy A14 have an OLED screen?

No. The A14 uses a 6.6-inch PLS LCD at 1080 × 2408 (FHD+), and it was the last A-series phone to do so: Samsung moved to AMOLED from the A15 onwards. Any “OLED” screen listed for the A14 is mislabelled.

Can I replace the A14 screen myself?

Yes, but treat it as a full teardown rather than a screen swap. The iFixit guide opens the phone from the back and moves every internal part, battery and motherboard included, into the new frame. Budget an afternoon, use a prying tool set and a Phillips #00 driver, disconnect the battery first, and test everything before reassembly. If you have not done teardown repairs before, an independent shop at R1,100–R1,400 is the safer spend.

Is the A14 screen the same as the A13 or A15?

No. The A13 and A14 are both LCD phones but are different models with different panels and model numbers, and the A15 moved to OLED at a higher price on our shelf (R989 against R524). One price covering “A13/A14/A15” is a warning sign, not a bargain.
